Dear Partners and Friends,

While the world is in turmoil, the Gospel of the Kingdom is forcefully advancing. According to Matthew 11:12, forceful people lay hold of it, they take it by force. What is this force? Our faith is the force with which we fight against the powers of the darkness of this present age. Using our faith is how we overcome the world (1 John 5:4).

May I exhort you, dear Brother or Sister, be a force of faith in your sphere of influence. When you encounter someone who is afraid, give them an answer for the Hope that you have within your heart. Offer to pray with them and ask God to both comfort them in their current situation and for Him to reveal Himself to them in an irrefutable way.

Our dear Brothers and Sisters in India are fighting the Good Fight of Faith, with spiritual weapons. This month we have several testimonies of how God has responded and shown Himself strong! As you read these testimonies, be encouraged! God wants to give you your own
testimonies to share. And when He does, write us, and tell us your story. We will rejoice with you!

It never gets old for me to say, “don’t give up!” Keep seeking His face and expecting His provision. God wants you to be equipped for the end-time harvest. Receive His power in your life, for yourself, your family, and for those around you. If you are not sure how to do this, contact us and we will agree with you in prayer, and help in whatever way we can.

Brother Vijay is from a remote village. He was living a very peaceful life, farming his family’s land. For him, his wife and son, and his parents, it was enough to provide for his family. But suddenly, his father had a heart attack and for his medical treatment, Vijay had to borrow money from a money lender, using the farm as collateral. His father’s medical expenses mounted, and due to other health issues, Vijay could not recover financially and he lost the family farm to the money lender. At this point, he was filled with bitterness, and he fell into alcoholism. His personal life and family life were being destroyed. To provide for the family Vijay came to Punjab to work in construction. Whatever he earned he would send back to his family. In his own words “I did not talk to my wife or my children or parents with love and care, instead, I was always cursing them for everything that happened in my life, always angry with them. My life was full of confusion and bitterness.”

He came to work on a small church building project at one of our mission stations. At that time, he had never heard about Jesus in his life, because no one ever told him. As he continued to work there, he saw many people coming to the missionary’s house where he would lay hands on them and pray for them. At first Vijay thought it was some kind of witchcraft the missionary was doing. Vijay was familiar with all kinds of witchcraft because he used to go to the witchcraft doctors in his village. That evening after work, he went to our missionary and shared with him all the bad things that had happened in his life, expecting our missionary to cast some kind of spell to help him.

Instead, our missionary quietly comforted him and said a prayer of blessing for him and his family. He said “you have been working all day and you are tired. Tomorrow is Sunday – please come tomorrow afternoon and we will talk.” Vijay appreciated how our missionary treated him and blessed him and his family. In Vijay’s own words “no one ever blessed our family and prayed for us with such love and compassion. Whenever we went to a temple priest with our problems or issues, they did all kind of rituals and uttered so many words but we never understood what they were saying. But today every word of the prayer touched my heart—it was full of love and compassion.”

The following day our missionary had an opportunity to share the Gospel with Vijay, who later said “it was the first time I heard of a God who loves mankind. All through my life I have only heard about gods and goddesses who fight with people and kill them. We are told to be very fearful of them, because if the god gets upset he will destroy everything. Today I was taught about a god who is kind and loving and compassionate. I really liked this Jesus! I wanted to know more about him, so whenever I had an opportunity I went to hear about Jesus from the pastor. I can’t say exactly when I fell into His Love. My wife, with whom I talked daily on the phone, asked me almost every day since I began to know the Lord ‘what is happening to you,’ because she noticed a change in the way I talked to her. I had been bitter toward her before, but now I was talking to her with care and affection. I didn’t realize that I was changing. My love for Jesus was growing and the Holy Spirit was transforming my life.”

After two years, a tragedy struck back home. His 11-year-old son was playing cricket with other children in the village when the cricket bat hit him on the back of the head (a cricket bat is very heavy). They rushed him to the hospital, with internal bleeding. The doctors tried everything but he fell into a deep coma. He was put on a ventilator, and finally the doctors declared him to be in a ‘vegetative state.’ When Vijay heard the news, he rushed home to see his son, but it was a two-day train journey.went to the hospital where his son had been taken. After more than a month, the doctors told him there was nothing more they could  do, and if he wanted to, he could take him home. They would arrange for local health workers and doctors to come and check on him in the home.

Vijay was confident that the Jesus who loves him and cares for him would heal his son. When he brought his son back home, the villagers came to comfort him. But Vijay had one thing to say: “I came to know that Jesus loves me, He cares for me, and He will heal my son and bring back him to life.” As days passed, thousands of people were praying for him. On Friday, September 11, 2020, we were having a Zoom meeting where around 90-100 people had joined from different locations. Vijay and his family were on that call. During prayer time, he shared his son’s situation and asked everyone to pray for him. As usual Regi asked everyone to stretch out their hands in faith and pray for God’s intervention and heal Vijay’s son. As they all prayed, they asked Vijay and his wife to lay their hands on their son. Suddenly, they lost  connection with Vijay. After prayer they ended the meeting. Ten minutes later, Regi got a call from Vijay. As he answered, he heard many people crying. He thought Vijay’s son may have passed away. In great agony he asked Vijay what happened;  why everyone was crying (He was afraid to ask him how his son was doing!) Vijay was crying and shouting hysterically, and Regi could only hear “Pastor! Pastor!” After a few moments Vijay told Regi that while they were praying the electricity went off in their house, and an unexplainable flash of light appeared in the room. When the power came back, they saw their son’s eyes were open and he was saying “Papa! Mummy!” Vijay said the sound of crying was tears of happiness and rejoicing. After their son had been in a coma for 41 days, he was awake again! Regi almost fainted, thanking God for His wonderful love and the miracle He did in Vijay’s family.

The following day the local doctor came to visit. When he heard the story of the boy’s miraculous recovery, he advised them to take him back to the medical college (where he had been kept for over a month). The doctors ran tests on him for two days, and finally they were satisfied. On Monday the 14th he was sent back home!

Our God is still alive and active! He touches people, heals them and bring them to life.

Proclaiming the Gospel…

We know we are in the end times. How, you say, do we know? Well, the signs are becoming more pronounced and obvious. Jesus told us these things. He said, “Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.” (Luke 21:10-11 NASB) We have seen strife between ethnic groups, earthquakes in odd places, a global pandemic, rampant wildfires, and one hurricane after another.

Jesus goes on to say, “But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for My name’s sake. It will lead to an opportunity for your testimony.” (Luke 21:12-13 NASB) The enemy is trying to silence the Church and prevent us from sharing the Gospel. Have you felt this on social media? The world is calling good evil and evil good (see Isaiah 5:20). Believers are increasingly scorned and mocked for speaking the truth. Recognize this as an opportunity to share your testimony. People can argue about doctrine and Bible interpretation, but it is difficult to argue against someone’s testimony.

As I said last month, don’t give up! Jesus continues this passage in Luke 21 by leaving us with this encouraging thought: “But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” (Luke 21:28 NASB)

God is releasing His anointing on people today, equipping them for the end time harvest. Receive His power in your life, for yourself, your family, and for those around you. If you are not sure how to do this, contact us and we will help in whatever way we can.

Dear Partners and Friends,

Lately, I have been reflecting on Galatians 6:9 “Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in.” (AMP) Over the past 6 months many of us, if we can be honest, may have felt discouragement. I know I have. There has been a constant pressure against us, trying to wear us down.

The enemy tried to prevent the church from gathering; that failed. We now have more gatherings online than we ever had in buildings. Then he tried to divide the Body of Christ on racial lines. He saw a weakness there, a “fault line,” and he sent an earthquake of racial tension. We are still standing strong. He tried to frighten us with a virus, but we have a God who heals!

If you are getting weary of the struggle, tired of the constant barrage against you, then go back and re-read that verse, especially the last part: “for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in.” Don’t give in! Don’t quit! Keep fighting “the good fight of faith.” (1 Tim. 6:12)

Our brothers in India are suffering even more than we are here in America. They are misunderstood and looked at with suspicion. Many people have blindly accused them of causing the coronavirus. Some have been run out of their villages. Some have been beaten. Some have been homeless for a time.

But God is vindicating them, even now. We are starting to see cracks in the plans of the enemy. What he planned for evil, is coming upon the evildoers themselves. Here in America, too. Things that were done in secret are coming to the light. Darkness and evil in government are being exposed. Slowly, almost imperceptibly, the tide is turning, the wind is shifting.

Now is not the time to give up. The LORD is moving. Revival is here. Keep praying. Keep sowing into God’s kingdom. Look for opportunities to share the Gospel with your friends. The great harvest is coming, and in fact, has already begun. You can be a part of it!

A large Nepali population lives and works in the state of Himachal Pradesh, working mostly as laborers or farmers. Most of them are from a Hindu background and live in unreached people groups. We started our outreach among these people groups 15 years ago, and we have seen thousands of Nepali people come to the Lord Jesus. Our God has moved in that community with hundreds of wonders and miracles. A person who had been paralyzed for 11 years, and was confined to a wheelchair was healed instantly during a worship service. We have documented many miracles: cancer patients being healed; hundreds of drug addicts and alcoholics instantly delivered, hundreds of testimonies of people who have experienced God’s special visitation in their personal life or in a worship service. Today by God’s Grace, there are now more than 25,000 Nepali Christians in this region. People who were formerly under the bondage of idol worship, ritual animal sacrifices, and witchcraft, have been delivered by the blood of the Lamb and are now “worshiping the Lord in Spirit and truth” in hundreds of small groups.

Bhim Singh is one of these Nepali believers. He came to the Lord 5 years ago. He was found by some of our Christian Nepali brothers with serious knife injuries, laying on the roadside bleeding. They rushed him to the hospital, and took care of him just like the story of the Good Samaritan. He had been left on the roadside after a fight with his drinking buddies. Our believers nursed him back to health, shared the Gospel with him, prayed with him, and led him to the Lord. He grew in God’s Word and in faith. By God’s grace he received a favorable court judgement and was acquitted of all charges. He joined one of our house church leaders’ Training Centers, and completed the 40-day training. During the training period he met and married a young lady. After the training, they wanted to go to an area where many Nepalis are working in dam construction, but native High Caste Hindus will not allow any Christians to share the gospel in that area. In fact, many believers were beaten up by the High Caste Hindus for sharing the gospel.

Bhim and his wife Lata were praying for an opening to go to that particular place to share the gospel. A year ago, with our help, Bhim moved to that place, rented a house, and found part-time work as a waiter, every evening from 4 to 10pm. Bhim and Lata began to meet with locals Nepalis and started sharing the Gospel. They found several Nepali brothers and sisters who already knew the Lord, but did not have any fellowship. Bhim and Lata started a meeting in their home, but Hindu radicals stopped them. They forced Bhim out of his job, and drove them out of their rented house. No one else was willing to rent a house to them, so they spent three days living in a roadside rain shelter.

During that time, an old man came by. He said “I don’t have a place to rent, but I have some farmland nearby, just laying idle. I used to farm it, but now that I’m old I’m not farming it anymore. If you will agree to farm the land, I will rent it to you.” For Bhim and Lata, it was the sound of a divine door flinging open! With our financial support, they rented the farm, pitched a tent on the land, and took up farming. With the help of the other Nepali brothers and sisters, Bhim and Lata worked hard and planted vegetables.

Then the COVID-19 situation came, bringing a total lockdown, but by the grace of God, Bhim’s rented farm was actively harvesting winter vegetables. The same people who forced him from his job and his home were now standing in line for his vegetables!

During the lockdown Bhim and Lata, with the support of local government officials, distributed free vegetables from their rented farm to all those in need. They hired native young people to work in the fields, to harvest the vegetables and distribute to the people. According to Bhim “every day we went into the fields for the harvest, we gathered more than enough!” This went on every day for the past three months! Even the villagers could not believe their eyes; the food was just multiplying! More than 11 tons of vegetables have been harvested from the fields and distributed to the people in the village, all free of cost. The rest were sold in the market, and Bhim and Lata have received more than enough for their needs.

Last Sunday Regi and Sherly were in that area visiting Bhim and Lata. The same villagers who forced them out of their rented house have now given them a very nice rented house to live in. The villagers have also allowed them to have Christian prayer meetings in their house. Due to the COVID-19 situation, they have not started the prayer meetings. Regi and Sherly were amazed by the support and the response of the villagers. They treated them like “holy people,” touching their feet with reverence and laying flowers on the path as they walked to Bhim Singh’s house. They showed great respect to them, but Regi and Sherly gave all the glory to God. These were the same villagers who had beaten up missionaries many times, and had never allowed them to share the Gospel. Regi and Sherly prayed over the Singh’s house and started the first Sunday service with 20 people in attendance. (According to the government rule, no more than 20 people can meet together.) At the same time, many people were standing outside, maintaining social distancing while listening to the preaching. Bhim Singh said that over the last three months more than 49 people have received Jesus as their personal savior from this village.

Because of the inspiration of Bhim, many young people who had lost their jobs due to the lockdown started farming, planting cucumbers, beans, tomatoes, and other seasonal vegetables. Today the village has been transformed! A “green revolution” has started. At the same time, a “spiritual revolution” and breakthrough is occurring. The Gospel of Christ is penetrating a hard land and bringing transformation.

As Regi was leaving the village, the villagers brought vegetables to their car as an offering. When they left, the trunk of the car was full of vegetables! They brought them home and shared with other believers, praising God for His wonders!

Proclaiming the Gospel…

…until He comes,

Millions of day laborers have left the big cities and returned to their villages during the lockdown, walking hundreds of miles in 90° to 100° temperatures. Even today, hundreds are still fleeing every day from major cities as COVID-19 continues to spread. As India is fighting hard to control the pandemic, every day 15,000 new people are infected, according to government reports. As COVID claims people’s livelihoods and peace, people are looking for hope. In India, God is moving during this crisis, opening the doors for the Gospel in the hardest parts of the country. We are seeing God moving among the unreached people groups in special ways, and touching thousands of lives, even during this difficult time.

But God is a God of hope, and He is using our native believers, house church leaders, and missionaries to share not only food but also the Gospel during this lockdown. During R’s last trip to the USA, he brought back around 200 CDs of the Jesus film in different languages. As they started the summer outreach program in March, he gave them to the teams to distribute to the people. During the Lockdown, one of our outreach teams gave out the CDs in some villages for people to watch. In one village, where they had never heard the Gospel, a family came together to watch the Jesus film on their TV. Many of their neighbors came to watch with them, about 25 people in all. As the movie progressed, there was a scene where Jesus was healing the sick. One village woman began to cry out “Jesus have mercy on us” as they were saying in the movie. Several other women joined her in crying out for healing. At that moment, one woman claimed that she saw a man walking in the sky, wearing a “long dress” (as Jesus was dressed in the movie). He came close to them and blessed them. While she was saying this, she was healed from abnormal spinal curvature, and instantly she was able to stand up straight. Several other people, including some children, experienced instant healing from different sicknesses, including a woman with a visible tumor on her neck, which instantly vanished. The testimony of this event spread to several other villages, and over the last two and half months thousands of people have seen the Jesus movie in the homes. Hundreds of them have accepted Christ into their lives.

Our brothers have reported that hundreds more people have already believed in Christ during the lockdown days. One of our outreach teams who started the summer outreach at the beginning of March (before the lockdown) was beaten up by the Hindu fanatics in their outreach village. They humiliated our six-member outreach team in front of the villagers, accusing them of many charges, including displeasing the village god and goddess. They burned the team’s literature and Bibles in front of them. Our outreach team endured all this humiliation and sadly left the village. During the next two weeks, in this same village, two people tested positive for COVID-19 and the village was immediately and totally locked down. No one was allowed to leave the village, and because of the fear of catching the coronavirus, no one was willing to go into the village either. After one week of lockdown, the villagers complained of starvation in the village, but no one wanted to enter. Our summer outreach team volunteered to go in and distribute food packets. They visited 348 families in the village, distributing food bags and medicine, serving them for over six weeks. When the villagers realized that the same brothers whom they have beaten up and publicly humiliated were now serving them, it was their turn to be humbled.

By distributing food packets in their home every three days, God has provided a way for hundreds of hungry people to hear the Gospel of Jesus, perhaps for the first time. Today as the villages are beginning to open, we are seeing more and more people. Small weekly meetings are taking place in the villages and villagers are begging for Bibles, all because they have seen the love and passion of the young brothers. It has drawn many people to them and they have led them to the Lord.

Sewing Center Testimony

In another testimony coming from a village, a group of poor women and widows were being trained in our sewing center. Over the past 10 months, during the training, most of them have heard the Gospel, experienced the power of prayer in their life and their family, and have given their life to the Lord. When the lockdown started, masks were required, but they were impossible to buy in the village market. Our trainees decided they would make masks for their families and friends. With their own money, they bought materials and made around 400 masks, distributing them to their own extended families and friends in the villages.

The masks became a hit, and more people started asking for them. They even received orders from different institutions and schools! Over the past three months, 19 women stitched more than 34,000 masks, and also generated a decent profit to take care of their families. Today these 19 are beaming with confidence, testifying how our Lord took care of them and their families during the hard time. They have become an inspiration for hundreds of other women.

Proclaiming the Gospel…

…until He comes,

When I watch the news these days, it seems like I am reading the Gospel of Matthew. In Chapter 24, he quotes Jesus as saying “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.” In Greek, the word translated “nation” could also be translated “ethnic group.” We are seeing conflict between ethnic groups at a level arguably greater than any time in recent history.

Jesus goes on to say “There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.” We have seen this too, as a sign of the times. But this is not the end. He warns us that the “world” will hate true believers, and many nominal Christians on the fence will decide to “turn away from the faith, and betray and hate each other.”

These words paint a troubling picture of the days we are living in. But Jesus ends his comments with some very encouraging words. He says “the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

How do we respond? Do not be alarmed. Stand firm. Those are Christ’s simple instructions. As I said last month, now is not the time to give up. Keep living your faith. Do not turn away from your faith because of disappointment. Keep praying. Keep expressing love in your actions to others. The return of Christ is approaching. Keep sharing the message of the Gospel. Raj Kumar was born into a traditional carpenter’s family where he grew up worshiping many Hindu idols and practicing many rituals. He studied up to the 8th grade, but after that his family felt that it was time for him to work and support the family. When he was 16 years old, he injured his leg with a hand saw. He did not take it seriously, however, and it became so badly infected that he was admitted to the hospital. He stayed there for more than seven months, but it never healed.

The injury continued to bother him and since he had great difficulty in walking, he was taken to different doctors, none of whom were able to cure him. He was even taken to a witch doctor, but again, it was no use. His parents were unable to treat him and he became a burden on them. The people in the village spread a rumor, saying the wound was due to leprosy, and that was the reason it could not be healed. They put pressure on Raj’s parents to abandon him.

Raj’s parents took him to a medical college, the biggest one in their region. There they tested him for leprosy and the result was negative. There too, after only one week of treatment, the hospital told his parents to take him home. The wound was now so serious that it affected his whole leg and he was completely bedridden. But they refused.

Unable to cope with the situation, Raj’s parents abandoned him there in the hospital, knowing they were probably leaving him to die, and went back to their village. So, this young man, who was unable to walk without someone’s help, was left in the hospital by his parents. Unable to pay the bills, the hospital simply put him out. Now Raj was alone, living on the street.

For two weeks he lay by the street, hopelessly waiting for death to come. The only ones who showed mercy to him were the beggars. In Raj’s own words “seeing my plight, the beggars along with some lepers (who were no longer contagious) shared their food with me, and at their mercy I was kept alive. Worms were crawling from my wound, and no one except the street dogs came close to me because of the awful smell. I was waiting for my death.”

One of our summer outreach teams was working in the area, and one of the beggars (a leper who had become a Christian) met our outreach team on the street and shared about Raj and begged them to help him. The leper led our outreach team to Raj. They found him lying under a tree, in great pain, surrounded by a putrid smell. Our brothers gave him some water and food and talked with him. Upon hearing his plight, they carried him to their room. They bathed him, cleaned his wound, and nursed him back to health. Daily they shared the good news of the Gospel and laid their hands on his wound, praying for him and giving him hope that Jesus had the power to heal him.

Raj began to read the Gospel on his own. Every miracle Jesus did gave him hope, and in his desperate condition Raj trusted Jesus for his healing from the serious disease that the doctors couldn’t heal.

After a few days of prayer, Raj started to feel the healing touch of the Lord and the wound started visibly healing. Within a few months, the wound was completely healed, and he started walking. In His own words “I was saved from the jaws of death; several times I wanted to end my life, to be rid of the misery I was going through, but even in that I was incapable. But Jesus saved me and turned my tears into joy, through the six young, loving brothers, people who I had never known before. Jesus sent those brothers to save me from my misery and give me a new life.” Raj accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and two years ago one of our leaders baptized him in the Ganges River. In the river that Hindus consider the holiest river of their faith, he made a bold declaration that his faith was only in Jesus, his Lord and Savior.

“’For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; … to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’” Matthew 25:35-40 NASB

For the last two years, he has been mentored by the local missionary whom we sent to that area. Last year Raj joined our house church leadership training program, completed the training, and joined our outreach team. It was then that he asked us to send him to his own village, the same place where the villagers had forced his parents to abandon him. Along with six other brothers, in the second week of March this year, he went to his parents’ area, but could not go to his home village because of the coronavirus.

But when the total lock-down began on March 23rd, on the following day he called our leadership team. He was burdened for the people on the street, the beggars who had fed him and kept him alive, but he was 45 miles away from them in another village. He asked for permission to leave the team and go and help the street beggars. As soon as we agreed, he started walking, and after three days he reached the town where his parents had left him to die. Immediately he went to the authorities to get permission to feed the street people. At first, they refused, but he shared his testimony with the police chief. He told him “they cared for me; it is now my time to help them.” Hearing this, the police chief gave him permission. That was on March 29th, and since that day Raj and two more of our missionaries have been feeding two meals every day to 300-350 street people, including lepers, beggars, the mentally ill, and other people. Raj and our missionaries and their families cook and pack the food every day and distribute it to the people.

Today the government authorities, the townspeople, and even the Hindu radicals all appreciate Raj and his team and are giving him support. For Raj it gives him great satisfaction to show his gratitude and repay his debt to the beggars and poor people, who shared their food with him and kept him alive while he was in the valley of death.

Raj, with his testimony, his love, and his passion to serve the people, is winning the hearts of the people for the Lord.

Dear Partners and Friends,

Things are changing every day. The country is beginning to open up. States are allowing businesses to reopen and workers to go back to their jobs. But the response from people crosses a wide spectrum. Some are rejoicing; some are upset. Some say it should have happened sooner, but others are afraid we are moving too quickly. People are suffering and dying from the virus, while others are suffering due to extreme economic hardship brought about by the lock-down. The problems of today’s society are complex, but the answer is truly simple.

As believers in Christ, followers of the one we call “King of Kings and Lord of Lords,” we are challenged to truly believe Him and take Him at His Word. His Word assures us that “[He] will never desert you, nor will [He] ever forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5, NASB) In times like these, we should ask ourselves, do we truly believe this? Or are we hearers of the Word, and not doers, deceiving ourselves?

Please hear me out. I am not saying we have no problems. Some people have been laid off. Others are stuck in a home that is now filled with people. Parents and children are getting on each other’s nerves. Small businesses are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. But for most of us in America, we have food to eat. Maybe not always what we want to eat, but something to
sustain us. We have a roof over our heads. Maybe your house needs some maintenance like mine does, but we should be thankful that we are not living on the street, like the people in this month’s story.

Let me exhort you: keep living your faith. Now is not the time to give up. We can see the signs of the times, so we know that the return of Christ is approaching. Keep reaching out to others. Keep praying. Keep sharing the message of the Gospel. And keep loving your neighbors.

What an unprecedented time we’re living in. We have had moments of confusion, concern, and disbelief at the events of the last several weeks. None of us ever expected that we would experience something like this in our lives. This global pandemic has affected all kinds of people, from all walks of life, with personal, spiritual, and financial implications. One question that comes to all of our minds is “what is happening, and what is going to happen?” And while we might not have chosen to experience this in our lifetime, in His sovereignty, God has ordained for us to be here for such a time as this, to witness this firsthand, with our own ears and our own eyes.

 But we have also been grateful for the truth of Isaiah 43:1-4 which reminds us: “… Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown” (NLT). We have a God who brings hope into our lives, even during the most challenging of circumstances.    

Praying Around the Clock

We have started a 24×7 prayer chain. Since March 21, all our missionaries and their families, thousands of believers, and thousands of our house church leaders are all joining together in prayer for the nations and for the healing of the land. Every hour between 1000 and 1300 people are joining together in their homes in different states and locations, praying for God’s intervention.

So many people around the world don’t have the hope that we are clinging to right now. They live in fear because they don’t know what is going to happen. We want them to know Jesus, and to have access to God’s Word in a language that speaks to their hearts. We have started to record salvation messages, just five minutes each, and we are now sharing these messages with hundreds of people through WhatsApp. We have set up a phone number, where people can call for questions or spiritual counseling. We are receiving 100-120 calls every day, and most of the calls are from non-Christians.

Feeding the Hungry and Sharing the Gospel

At the same time, our commitment to the Lord Jesus and to His ministry has not changed. We have 86 young men who came for our 2020 Summer Outreach, to several different mission fields. Due to the total lockdown in the country, they will not be able to go out to share the Gospel. But we take this time as a privilege we have been given, to help the local believers, both spiritually and physically. Almost all the teams that came for the outreach are now involved in helping the people, alongside the government officials. In Bihar, our brothers have joined with the local people, serving in the community kitchen and feeding thousands of people. They are doing so while following all the recommended precautions. (We have not asked them to do this. Instead, our leaders asked them not to go out, but they felt they needed to help people.) It also gives them an opportunity to meet people and share and pray with them.

Food Bags for the Desperate

Millions of daily workers, slum dwellers, and migrant workers and their families are facing a hard time. They do not have food to eat. The authorities are trying to help but hundreds of people are not getting help in the villages. In response to the great need, all the churches that are involved with the ministry have come forward to help the poor, the needy, and the untouchables. By God’s grace and the sacrificial giving of God’s people, we helped 1,900 families with food bags. In each bag, we have one week’s minimum supply of food. This consists of 8 lbs. each of wheat flour and rice, 4 lbs. each of lentils, onions, and potatoes, 2 lbs. each of sugar and vegetable oil, 1/2 lb. of tea, 1 packet of salt, some spices, 1 bar of soap, 1 lb. of laundry powder, and some fresh vegetables. If the family has small children we also include some packets of milk powder and some other children’s food.

Hundreds of our believers who had saved wheat and rice for their families came forward to give to the needy. One of our leaders writes “Many people have said that the church in India is always a receiving church and that they have never learned to give, but after what I have experienced over the last two weeks, I can tell you that the Indian church is learning to give.”

On Good Friday morning, our mission leader from the state of Bihar, one of the poorest states in India, called a leader and said that there are hundreds of believers who are facing hardship since the lockdown began. In some areas, the authorities and villagers are targeting new Christian believers, by withholding government food subsidies and other benefits that people in the village are receiving. When the Christians questioned this, they were beaten up and accused of trying to spread the virus. Local Hindu radicals are pressuring the believers, saying “Reject your faith in Christ, come to the Hindu temple, bow down before the idols, and we will give you food.” Our coordinator told his leader that the situation is very grave. The believers are down to one meal a day, and they are not allowed to eat in the community kitchen.

The leader promised him that he would pray for them and try to do something. He and his wife prayed and called out for God’s provision and for His intervention. As they finished praying, they received a call from Surender Singh, a Sikh convert, a hard-working farmer who came to the Lord last year, through our Summer Outreach team. He said “Pastor, I just harvested my wheat yesterday. By God’s grace, we have a very good harvest. To honor Jesus, I want to give 1000 food bags to people in need.” (His field is only 5 acres, and he actually wanted to give 2 metric tons of wheat or 4400 lbs., but since it was impossible to transport, he sold the wheat and wanted to help with the food bags.)

The Indian government is planning to extend the lockdown until May 3rd. Our teams are praying and trying their best to help people with food bags, and many believers are coming forward to help.
